The roles of each organisation are clearly defined, promoting collaboration and local engagement throughout the project’s implementation.

To this end, a total of six artistic residencies will be organised, one in each participating country. Each residency will host one foreign artist and one or more local artists, who will come from different artistic backgrounds and have different artistic disciplines and cultures. Each residency will last for ten days and will be responsible for performing one or more artistic creations that fall within one of the two themes identified, with the aim of highlighting the dimensions of the problem of waste and the need for its rational management.

In Faenza, Italy, the European Route of Ceramics will host a workshop teaching ceramists to create eco-friendly pigments from domestic waste. An artistic residency will upcycle mud from natural areas into usable clay, purifying it in the process. Additionally, they will document the creation phases and organize a seminar for ceramists interested in these sustainable practices.

In Malta, will organise an artistic residency focusing on waste in cultural spaces. In collaboration with street artists, impressive murals will be created and a workshop on turning waste into art will be held. The participation of street artists aims to raise awareness among the public, especially young people.

The partner “Village Membership Club”, based in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, which, like every European capital, is not spared from outdoor waste and the problem of waste disposal, will ask artists to observe differences in waste management between different parts of the city – urban and more popular – to inspire and create.

In Avignon, France, the University of Avignon will also host a residency focusing on agricultural and/or industrial waste. It will also organise a seminar to present the project to the students of the University and will carry out various activities to promote and disseminate the results of the project in order to give the inhabitants of the city the opportunity to participate or to be informed about the problems expressed through artistic creation in the context of the project.

In Spain, the artistic residency will be held in the Senia region, organized by Mancomunidad Taula del Sénia, known for preserving old olive trees. The residency will focus on agricultural waste from olive cultivation, promoting sustainability. Involving rural communities and local schools is key to achieving the OTRart project’s goals and spreading its messages.

In Kalamata, Greece, the cultural foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree” will organise an artist residency to highlight the problem of the indiscriminate use of plastics through artistic creation. The hosting of the residency there will aim to have a great impact on the residents of the wider region, who are often unaware of the major issue of irrational waste management, as well as on tourists visiting this beautiful coastal city of southern mainland Greece. The Foundation will also organize workshops for students 6-12 years old and their parents, in which the children will be invited to participate in a simple artistic creation in order to raise awareness in an entertaining way.

DECHETS D’ART (DDA)

The partner DDA will play a key role in the success of these activities by offering artistic advisory services, selecting artists aligned with project themes (e.g., plastics, ceramics, urban waste), and ensuring smooth execution.
