Demographic growth and rising living standards have led to a considerable increase in our needs, which are often met by items with ever shorter lives. Plastic production exploded in the 1970s. And these billions of plastic bottles and bags have a lasting impact.

The challenges we face

In the context described above, the goal of the project is to mobilise public interest in the issue through art, and to encourage people to learn about and implement European policies in this area. Exploit the interdependencies between the different sectors – cultural, artistic, educational, environmental – to gain a better understanding of the problem and, in the long term, draw attention to the importance of the ecological transition.

Our proposal

Through the proposed actions, our project seeks to describe the results of a transition that took place in the second half of the 20th century, from a system based on the use of a rare object, generally designed and manufactured locally, to mass consumption encouraged by lower costs, rapid obsolescence and flows organised at international level. The resulting artistic creations of more or less durable objects will demonstrate the disproportionate scale of the effects of our mode of production and consumption on the quantity and quality of the waste it generates.

Overview of the project crafting a different narrative for our planet Background and objectives The world is overflowing with rubbish.
