OTRart: Art says STOP to waste and responds to climate change!
The OTRart project kicks off with momentum, bringing together 12 artists from 6 countries on a shared mission: to give new life to materials deemed useless and to awaken public awareness about the climate crisis through sustainable art.
Launched in November 2024, the project gained further energy after the first in-person meeting of all partners in Kalamata in January 2025. Following this inspiring gathering, we rolled up our sleeves and began working creatively to confront the urgent global issue of wastefulness.
More than just creative expression, recycled art has become a powerful medium for reflection. Using discarded materials like plastic cups, bottles, metals, and everyday objects, the artists of OTRart create works that carry a clear and urgent message: pollution and overconsumption are no longer sustainable.
Each artwork is not just an act of inspiration—it is an act of resistance against careless waste. Through the use of discarded materials, the project becomes a call to rethink our relationship with the objects we consume and the natural world around us.
As part of the program, the Artist Residency in Kalamata will serve as a hub for creativity and environmental awareness. There, the waste that washes up on the city’s beaches each summer will find a new voice. With complete artistic freedom, the participating artists will transform these remnants into works that speak to the soul—visually, emotionally, and socially.
With no limits on materials or mediums, the message remains clear: to turn waste into a source of inspiration and action, to raise public awareness, and to nurture ecological consciousness.
OTRart offers us a new path: a world where art is not only expression, but also a catalyst for change—toward a more sustainable planet.
In the coming days, the first meeting between the international artist and the local artist is expected to take place, marking the beginning of a close collaboration focused on bringing their shared artistic vision to life. Together, they will begin shaping ideas into action—turning discarded materials into meaningful, thought-provoking works of art.
Stay tuned! Very soon, you’ll meet the artists who are redefining what “waste” truly means—through the transformative power of creativity.
