When art raises awaraness about waste
Each project partner hosted an artist of foreign origin and an artist from the host country with the aim of producing a joint eco-responsible work of art from waste.
Alarming amounts of waste are continuously produced due to excessive consumption, the rapid obsolescence of many objects, and intense international flows. This abundance of waste has become a major global concern. More and more artists are taking action to raise awareness about this crucial issue and are turning to more environmentally friendly practices. Art can be a powerful means of raising awareness, informing and motivating everyone on this planet, encouraging them to think, care and take action to better protect their environment, regardless of their age.

Some key figures on waste to bear in mind… The global reality of waste
- Every year, more than 2 billion tonnes of municipal waste are generated globally, a figure expected to increase by up to 70% by 2050.
- At the same time, over 400 million tonnes of plastic are produced annually, yet only around 9% is recycled. As a result, approximately 11 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans each year, with severe impacts on ecosystems, particularly in the Mediterranean.
- Within the European Union, each citizen generates an average of about 500 kg of waste per year, highlighting the scale of the problem in everyday life.
OTRart : Final meeting
The final meeting took place in Spain on 13 and 14 March 2026 in Morella, Mancomunitat Taula del Sénia. The OTRart partners were welcomed by the local authorities Bernabé Sangüesa, Mayor of Morella and Evaristo Martí, President of Mancomunitat.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the project’s progress over the past 18 months. It also gave us a chance to look ahead to the future.
The partners had the opportunity to admire the works of art created as part of OTRart and to enjoy a special moment amidst the thousand-year-old olive trees in the company of partners from the Manconunitat.
