OTRart Residency in La Sénia, Spain – Giving New Life to a Millenary Olive Tree

OTRart is an initiative of the Creative Europe Programme that addresses the problems of waste in the Mediterranean through creative and transformative artistic expressions and, at the same time, aims to raise public awareness and promote the adoption of European environmental policies through art.
The project began in Kalamata (Greece) in January this year and involves seven partners from six countries: Greece (Routes of the Olive Tree), Spain (Taula del Sénia Association), Italy (European Route of Ceramics), France (University of Avignon and Dechets d’Arts), Croatia (Klub članova Selo) and Malta (Unfinished Art Space).
The Taula del Senia’s activity, related to the Millennial Olive Trees, takes place at: – Pou del Mas Millennial Olive Tree Natural Museum in La Jana (Castellón) – Arión Natural Museum of Ancient Olive Trees in Ulldecona (Tarragona) as this is where the two natural museums are located and there is also one dead olive tree in each.
Of the two artists leading this project, the international artist is Laurent Gongora (French sculptor) and the local artist is Manel Raga (filmmaker). It is worth highlighting the participation of the Mancomunidad Taula del Senia and the town councils of La Jana and Ulldecona, as well as the collaboration of the owners of the olive trees: the Llorach brothers and the Porta i Ferré family, along with other individuals and entities that have joined in, especially the artisan potter Joan Cortiella.
